Fresh from the Creative Hay Fields: Art and Inspiration HayFestival2023

Just returned from an absolutely incredible time at the Hay-on-Wye Book Festival in Powys, immersed in the magical world of literature and ideas. Among the numerous unforgettable moments, three stand out vividly:

  1. Sitting in on a truly captivating session with Prof Mark Blagrove and Assoc Prof Dr. Julia Lockheart, brilliant authors of “The Science and Art of Dreaming”. Their exploration of the psychology and neuroscience of dreaming left me utterly spellbound. Julia’s masterful weaving together of imagery and language was mesmerizing, taking me on an unforgettable journey of the mind. This strongly resonates with my own attempts, with illustrator Vanessa Damionou, through my own hermeneutic phenomenological method, through mimesis, to develop 12 persona vignettes to vividly evoke insight into my phenomenon of focus.

2. Exploring the enchanting world of books, art, and music alongside my three made the day extra special for me. Witnessing their infectious enthusiasm and boundless curiosity through the festival field offerings, and out into the treasures that awaited in the town itself, reaffirmed my belief in the transformative power of literature and creativity.

3. I also have to call out my serendipitous encounter with the ever-inspiring #RubyWax at the till in the main bookstore!

The Hay-on-Wye Book Festival is undeniably a haven for book lovers of all ages, where imaginations soar and connections are forged. This unforgettable experience has further ignited my love for literature and reignited my creative spirit after the tensions and fatigue of the previous months finalisng my doctoral study.
