hanfod.NL, new phenomenological society and event

Thanks to Vanessa Randle – thinkingvisually.com for the new logo

Phenomenology has become my passion since starting my doctorate. Enveloped by its underpinning philosophy, I have worked to develop my practice of phenomenological method and attitude. It’s already been quite an adventure, opening up new networks, friendships, ways of seeing. I believe it will continue to be an ever evolving and rewarding journey.

It is with great excitement I share the birth of a new society with Dr Mike Johnson and Morten Kure Kattenhøj. ‘hanfod.NL‘ aims to build a community of phenomenological enquiry within networked learning.

‘hanfod’ is the Welsh word for ‘essence’, pronounced han-vod

hanfod.NL 2021 (HNL21) in Cardiff

The Networked Learning Conference Consortium is supporting hanfod.NL to run a 2 day event in Cardiff (10th-11th June 2021). Here we aim to shape and strengthen phenomenology’s contribution to networked learning in the run-up to the full Networked Learning Conference in 2022.

Two international prestigious experts have agreed to help us.

Professor Cathy Adams, leads a ‘Phenomenology of Practice’ workshop, and Professor Nina Bonderup Dohn leads a writing workshop. The morning of day two starts with a Pecha Kucha session, for the sharing experiences of networked learning and phenomenology, to hear ‘voices from the river’, to borrow Heidegger’s analogy. Doing phenomenology, like learning to swim, requires one to get in the water.

“Neither phenomenology nor swimming can be learnt in a purely vicarious way. ‘We shall never learn what “is called” swimming … or what it “calls for,” by reading a treatise on swimming. Only the leap into the river tells us what is called swimming’ (Heidegger, 1968: 21)(Quay, 2016: 486).

Please visit https://hanfod.NL to find out more details on the programme, venues (with social distancing protocols in place) and the Pecha Kucha abstract submission.

*hanfod.NL invite donations of £10 (minimum) to defray costs and secure a place for this limited capacity event. The evening social event (10th June 2021) is a banquet in Cardiff Castle costing £54 all in, a deposit of £20 must be paid by 15th February 2021.

Be great to hear from you if you have any questions.
