Yesterday evening, I had the privilege of presenting to the Llanelli Rotary Club, coinciding with a visit from Dan Munyori Onyango of the Rotary Club of Nairobi Karengata. I was thrilled to take the floor to share my recent Entrepreneurial Education endeavours in Llanelli, presenting how a cluster of local schools are integrating entrepreneurial skills through the EntreComp framework into the Curriculum for Wales. I explained its implementation and alignment with the curriculum’s four core purposes, tracing back to the early journey in the town with my work with Dafen School through to more recent National Academy for Educational Leadership (NAEL) Wales funded work with Professor Andy Penaluna, embracing five more schools (primary and secondary) in the area.

I also unveiled the evolving ‘Harmonious Heroes Initiative‘ and the concept of “Cyflawnwyr Newid Menter Cytûn” (Harmonious Enterprising Change Makers). This new initiative operationalises the vision of empowering Llanelli through Entrepreneurial Education, aiming to build a pipeline of value creators aligned with the Curriculum for Wales.

The initiative is rooted in Harmonious Entrepreneurship, supporting sustainable enterprises where profit, planet, and people exist in harmony (as detailed with my ongoing work with Professor Kirby). It draws support from Llanelli Township, a Community Benefit Society, and our breadth of Llanelli stakeholders. This educational initiative is deeply rooted in local needs and aspirations, driving positive change and sustainable development within the community.

Cerith Owens, Llanelli Rotary Club President, captured the essence of the evening:

“There was a real buzz at our meeting this evening. After dinner, we had a short presentation from visiting Rotarian Dan Munyori Onyango from the Rotary Club of Nairobi Karengata about some of the projects he has been involved with in Kenya, including provision of a library in his home village. Then, a longer presentation from Dr Felicity Healey-Benson about how Llanelli schools are leading the way in integrating entrepreneurial skills into the new curriculum. The hope is that this will help to drive solutions to some of the town’s thorny problems and create a positive future here for our children. It’s great to hear about Rotary projects that solve local issues – and think about how we might be able to do the same here at home.”

This evening reinforced the power of community engagement and the potential for educational initiatives to have far-reaching impacts on Llanelli’s entrepreneurial future. It was inspiring to see the connection drawn between local educational initiatives and global Rotary projects, all aimed at solving community issues and creating positive change.

I am thoroughly motivated by what is to unfold….
