Wishing all, local and afar, the best Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) 2021.

GEW is a special week for me. Not only does it celebrate and empower entrepreneurs in every country and community across the world, but it marks the first year of a fruitful journey with my Harmonious Entrepreneurship Society co-founder Professor David A. Kirby. As such, it is a time to reflect and take stock on all that can be achieved with a clear vision, committed partners, and a positive bundle of curiosity, energy, and a ‘just do it’ mindset. It’s also a perfect opportunity to spring forward, to grasp all opportunity around us, to forge forward to make a real dent in our very serious and time-dependent sustainability goals.

We must listen — and we must act — and we must choose wisely. On behalf of this and future generations, I urge you: Choose ambition. Choose solidarity. Choose to safeguard our future and save humanity” – UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.

Last year I reported on the magnificent GEW2020 endeavours of Dafen Primary School, and this year will be no exception. Wearing their Global EntreCompEdu Pioneer School crown with pride they have scoped out an aptly themed ethical and sustainability entrepreneurial extravaganza – a more sustainable Christmas!

Dafen School pupils are set to work on various projects using naturally sourced or recycled materials to make gifts to promote and sell to family, friends and the local community. The infants are also repurposing natural materials and waste to produce ethical and sustainable decorations for sale, using their own-grown willow off-cuts and beeswax. Linked to a recycling project, juniors will also take time to create a Remembrance Garden. The very youngest of the school are also gearing up to draw on their curiosity, experimentation, innovation and resilience, setting their sights on keeping the Gingerbread Man dry and alive for Christmas, building bridges and boats reusing junk materials and loose parts. The nursery children will be testing their creations to see what works and what fails. What a hive of entrepreneurial activity! I can’t wait to nosey in on their outputs.

In celebration of GEW2021, over at the Harmonious Entrepreneurship Society, we will be announcing an exciting educational initiative, and I’ll be lending a hand with my ‘mind behind’ interview series to have some soulful conversation with two inspirational names from the entrepreneurship world that have strong sustainability values and credible track record of getting things done. Watch out for a share of these this week!

Good luck to all my colleagues at INSPIRE & IICED at UWTSD for all the wonderful enterprise and entrepreneurial endeavours planned!

… see you soon. Have a value creating week! Felicity.
