GEW2023 marked a significant milestone for Dafen Primary School. This year’s participation in the global initiative was not just a singular event but a continuation of the school’s dedicated journey in entrepreneurship and sustainability. Embracing the week with zeal, the school delved into a series of new enterprising activities, focusing on a sustainable product range for the Christmas Fayre, highlighting their unwavering commitment to innovative learning and ecological responsibility.
Their efforts culminated in a whole-school showcase event, which was attended by leaders from local primary and secondary schools as well as other special guests. This event was not just a display of the students’ work for the week but also a testament to the school’s ingrained and holistic approach to entrepreneurial learning. As showcased in the ‘Being Entrepreneurial – Skills for Change’ Conference in Brussels, the school’s activities reflect the holistic educational approach advocated by the new Curriculum for Wales.
The array of products created and the verbal presentations given by the students of all the year groups, from nursery to year 6, were a breath-taking display of their entrepreneurial journey. Each product and presentation was not just a showcase of their efforts during the week but a reflection of the skills and knowledge they had been acquiring over time. This demonstrated their ability to think creatively and sustainably, embodying the ethos of continuous learning and development that Dafen Primary School champions.
The impact of these activities extended beyond the confines of the school. The event served as an inspirational model for other educational institutions, illustrating how entrepreneurship and sustainability can be integrated into the curriculum effectively. It also highlighted the school’s role in contributing to the broader community, fostering an environment where young minds are encouraged to innovate and solve real-world problems.
In summary, GEW2023 was not just a week-long event; it was a pivotal moment in Dafen Primary School’s journey. It showcased the culmination of ongoing efforts to instill entrepreneurial values and sustainable thinking in its students, setting a benchmark for future endeavours.

In a notable addition to this year’s event, Mark Paul Jones, a former pupil and now a successful local entrepreneur, joined as a school governor. Sharing his journey and insights, Mark emphasised qualities such as perseverance and vision, which resonate deeply with the entrepreneurial values the school instills in its students. His role as an alumnus and entrepreneur brings a unique perspective, inspiring the students and strengthening the school’s community ties.
